Welcome to Heretic II! You'll find this
is one of the most immersive and exciting gaming experiences ever created. If you've played through the singleplayer experience, but are having trouble getting started in Heretic II's multiplayer realm, this guide is meant for you! If you still have any questions or suggestions, please let us know at quickstart@hereticii.com! To play online you first need to patch your game to version 1.06. Go to Heretic II.com. Download the EP 1.06 (14 megs) from the Official Heretic II Files Section along with the DM Maps zip: • Heretic II Enhancement Pack, v1.06 (14445.3 KB)Included with the installation of Heretic II is Gamespy Lite. Look for an icon or the gamespy folder within your installation of Heretic II and run gspylite.exe. You can also get a newer version of Gamespy from Gamespy.com and set it up to list Heretic II servers. There are 2 primary modes of game play for Heretic II online (not including mods). Death Match and 1 on 1 Blading. Most servers listed in Gamespy will indicate which mode of play they support in the title of the server. When in doubt, join a server and ask the other players if the server is FFA (free for all) or 1 on 1. 1 on 1 Blading is a unique experience that many Heretics enjoy. 1 on 1 Blading uses a code of honor system so be sure to ask for the rules before engaging in battle. Something you no doubt will notice the first time you play online is that Heretic II will download any skins or maps in use on the server when you join. The download speeds while in game are quite slow and due to the large numbers of user made skins and maps you may want to download these before playing Heretic II online. One of our Heretic II server admins (thanks Grimlock) has also set up an FTP site which contains just about every map, skin and model ever made. If you know exactly what you need you can use your browser to grab files one by one here: • ftp://h2maps:fragme@207.152.119.5/If you have a high speed connection (or a dialup connection and the patience to let downloads run overnight) you can get all the maps and skins and stuff using an FTP program like WS_FTP (download.com). You then log on to host 207.152.119.5 using the usernames/passwords shown above. For maps username is "h2maps" password "fragme". For textures that go with the maps username is "h2textures" password "plaid". For skins username is "h2skins" password "fragnaked". Using an FTP program will let you download everything without having to manually grab items one by one using your browser.
